In a significant operation, Secunderabad zone police in Hyderabad have arrested 10 individuals and seized a substantial quantity of banned Chinese manja, a synthetic kite string that poses a grave danger to both humans and wildlife. This crackdown, which resulted in the recovery of 163 bobbins worth 1.8 lakh, highlights the ongoing battle against the illegal trade of this hazardous product.
The operation commenced with targeted searches in Kacheguda, Domalguda, and Amberpet, where police personnel raided houses suspected of illegally stocking the deadly manja. The first raid at businessman Nomula Santosh Kumar's residence in Kacheguda led to the seizure of 51 bobbins and the arrest of Santosh and his mother, Pushpa. Their confessions then guided the police to manja suppliers and sellers Lalith Singh, Kashiram Singh, and Om Prakash Singh, resulting in an additional 56 bobbins being confiscated. The investigation revealed that Lalith Singh, the prime supplier, sourced the manja from a Delhi-based dealer and had previous run-ins with the law under the NDPS Act.
The operation's reach extended to various parts of the city, with Domalguda police apprehending four students near the NTR Stadium and Amberpet police seizing 48 bobbins from a seller, K Sunil Kumar. The accused face charges under the BNS and Environment (Protection) Act, emphasizing the seriousness of their offenses.
This coordinated effort by Hyderabad's police force sends a clear message about the city's commitment to public safety and environmental protection. With the festival season approaching, when kite flying is popular, such proactive measures are essential to prevent accidents and protect the city's wildlife from the silent killer lurking in the skies.
