The ancient Sri Vedagiri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple in Nellore is set to become a beacon of renewable energy, with the Andhra Pradesh government announcing plans to lease 100 acres of its land for a solar power project. This move, revealed by State Endowments Minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy, marks a significant intersection of heritage and sustainability.

Minister Anam, during his visit to the temple, shared the government's vision for the temple's vast land resources. The Sri Vedagiri Narasimha Swamy Devasthanams, surrounded by hilly terrain, owns an impressive 1,100 acres of land. The minister proposed that leasing a portion of this land for solar power generation would benefit both the temple and the Nellore Municipal Corporation. The project promises an annual lease rental of Rs 3 crore for the Devasthanams, a substantial boost to its finances.

The Endowments Department has already demonstrated its commitment to the temple's development, allocating Rs 8.7 crore for various projects. These include the reconstruction of the Sri Govindaraja Swamy temple, the creation of a Dhyana Mandir, and a new Annaprasadam canteen. Furthermore, Rs 78 crore has been set aside for the development of 57 ancient temples in the Nellore district, showcasing a broader dedication to preserving the region's cultural heritage.
