In a significant operation against the illegal trade of hazardous kite strings, Hyderabad's Secunderabad zone police have arrested 10 individuals and confiscated a substantial quantity of banned Chinese manja. This crackdown, involving three police stations, has shed light on the dangerous practice of selling and using synthetic kite strings, which pose a severe threat to both humans and birds.
The operation commenced with raids at various locations in Kacheguda, Domalguda, and Amberpet, targeting houses suspected of storing the illegal manja. At Mothi Market in Kacheguda, the police seized 51 bobbins from businessman Nomula Santosh Kumar's residence, leading to his arrest along with his mother, Pushpa. Their confessions directed the authorities to manja suppliers and sellers Lalith Singh, Kashiram Singh, and Om Prakash Singh, resulting in the recovery of an additional 56 bobbins. Lalith Singh, a repeat offender, is known for his illegal activities, having previously been charged under the NDPS Act in Hyderabad and East Godavari.
The Domalguda police also apprehended four students near the NTR Stadium, who were found in possession of eight bobbins intended for resale. Amberpet police's efforts led to the seizure of 48 bobbins from seller K Sunil Kumar. In total, 163 bobbins worth 1.8 lakh were confiscated, underscoring the scale of this illicit trade.
This operation highlights the police's commitment to curbing illegal activities that endanger public safety. With the accused facing charges under relevant sections of the BNS and Environment (Protection) Act, the authorities send a clear message about the consequences of such hazardous practices. As the investigation unfolds, it remains to be seen whether this will deter others involved in the illegal manja trade.
