Hyderabad's Cybercrime Awareness Drive: Empowering Citizens, Combating Fraud

In a proactive move to combat the rising tide of cyber fraud, the Hyderabad police have launched a comprehensive awareness campaign, "Jaagrut Hyderabad a Surakshit Hyderabad," aimed at educating residents about digital safety and fostering a culture of online vigilance. This initiative comes at a critical juncture, as cybercriminals increasingly exploit human vulnerabilities, costing the Hyderabad Commissionerate jurisdiction a staggering 1 crore daily.

The campaign's launch event, held at a residential complex in Kavadiguda, introduced a unique concept: a network of 'cyber ambassadors.' These ambassadors, comprising trained residents, students, and professionals, will act as digital safety advocates. They will engage in door-to-door interactions, workshops, and awareness drives, ensuring the message reaches every corner of the city. The focus on grassroots-level education is a strategic approach to empower citizens with the knowledge and skills to protect themselves and their community.

The Hyderabad police, led by Commissioner VC Sajjanar, recognize that cybercrime is not just a law enforcement issue but a pervasive social problem. Telangana DGP B Shivadhar Reddy emphasized the evolving nature of these crimes, often perpetrated through phone calls, social media, and online platforms. Criminals target vulnerable individuals, especially women, the elderly, and homemakers, by exploiting personal details obtained online. To counter this, the campaign will display informative materials in public spaces, from bus stands to educational institutions, and encourage citizens to be vigilant against unknown links, APK downloads, and video calls from unfamiliar numbers.

As the campaign expands, it promises to significantly enhance Hyderabad's resilience against cyber threats, fostering a safer digital environment for all.
