In a significant development in the fight against drug trafficking, the Hyderabad Narcotic Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) has successfully apprehended and deported a Nigerian national, Johnkennedy Chukwuemeka Okoro, for his involvement in illegal activities. This operation highlights the city's proactive approach to maintaining national security and addressing the growing concerns surrounding drug abuse.
Okoro, also known as Hopy Cup and Jeksa, aged 43, had been living in India since 2012, when he arrived in Mumbai on a business visa. However, his legal stay ended long ago, as his passport and visa expired, and he continued to reside in the country illegally. The authorities' suspicions were raised when they discovered his frequent travels between Hyderabad and Bengaluru, prompting an investigation.
The Hyderabad City Police revealed that Okoro's illegal activities extended beyond overstaying his visa. He was allegedly involved in drug peddling, a lucrative yet dangerous enterprise. Despite no drugs being found on him during his arrest within the Asif Nagar Police Station limits, the authorities had gathered sufficient evidence of his involvement in drug trafficking.
The deportation process, a collaborative effort between H-NEW and the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), ensures that Okoro faces the consequences of his actions. This operation is part of a broader initiative by H-NEW, which has resulted in the deportation of 22 foreign nationals residing illegally in India, ten of whom were deported this year for similar visa violations and expired passports. The police appeal to the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities, emphasizing the collective responsibility in maintaining a drug-free society.
