Cocaine Bust: Elite Unit Targets Drug Network

In a significant drug enforcement operation, Hyderabad's Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement (EAGLE) has uncovered an extensive drug network spanning multiple states, with a city-based industrialist's son at its center. This revelation comes after the arrest of a cocaine consumer near RTC Crossroads, who led authorities to a web of interconnected drug activities.

The investigation took an intriguing turn when the accused, the son of a prominent biscuit factory chairman, admitted to a long history of cocaine abuse. His journey began during his MBA studies in London, where he first encountered the drug nearly 20 years ago. Upon his return to Hyderabad, he continued his habit with the help of friends who sourced cocaine from Goa. While some of his accomplices moved abroad, he remained in the city, allegedly maintaining his addiction.

The case gained momentum when the accused, along with a friend, was arrested in 2022 by Panjagutta police for drug consumption. However, the accused managed to get the case quashed in the high court. This incident was linked to a Nigerian national, Tony, whose mobile phone data exposed a list of drug consumers. The current operation gained traction when the accused, while attending a business conference in Delhi, met a group of businessmen, including one who owns a school in the city. This connection led to a recent meeting at a luxury hotel in Madhapur, where the group allegedly indulged in cocaine abuse.

As the investigation unfolds, the EAGLE unit's efforts highlight the complex nature of drug networks and the challenges in curbing substance abuse, especially among the affluent. The accused's willingness to seek help and his admission to a de-addiction center offer a glimmer of hope in this otherwise dark narrative.
