Hyderabad's Drug-Free New Year's Resolution

As the clock ticks towards the New Year, the Hyderabad City Police are gearing up for a drug-free celebration, ensuring a safe and sober start to 2024. In a recent high-level meeting, Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar announced a 'Zero Drugs Policy' with a comprehensive strategy to tackle drug-related activities during the festive season.

The Commissioner's office has outlined a multi-pronged approach, deploying a special surveillance team to keep a close watch on pubs, hotels, restaurants, and event venues. This initiative aims to deter drug peddlers and consumers, with officers instructed to monitor individuals with a history of drug-related offences over the past two years. The police will also track those entering the city for the celebrations, ensuring a comprehensive security net.

In a significant move, the crackdown extends beyond public spaces, with private gatherings at service apartments and hostels also under scrutiny. This proactive approach aims to prevent illegal activities and maintain a secure environment. To further enforce the policy, a mandatory 1:00 AM closing time has been set for all New Year celebrations at pubs, hotels, and restaurants, with strict action, including license cancellation, for non-compliance.

With a focus on public safety, the police will fortify check-posts and barricades at major hubs, ensuring a peaceful celebration without inconveniencing citizens. Commissioner Sajjanar emphasized the importance of coordination among officers, stating, "Every officer must work in unison to uphold the City Police's prestige and ensure Hyderabad remains drug-free during the New Year festivities." This coordinated effort aims to create a secure environment for citizens to welcome the New Year without the shadow of illicit activities.
