Hyderabad Fights Back Against Cybercrime

In a bold move to combat the rising tide of cyber fraud, the Hyderabad police have launched a comprehensive awareness campaign, "Jaagrut Hyderabad a Surakshit Hyderabad," to educate and empower citizens in the digital realm. With cybercriminals exploiting human emotions and vulnerabilities, the initiative aims to fortify the city's online defences.

The campaign's launch at a residential complex in Kavadiguda marked the beginning of a grassroots movement. A dedicated network of 'cyber ambassadors,' comprising residents, students, and professionals, has been trained to disseminate digital safety knowledge. These volunteers will engage in door-to-door interactions, workshops, and public drives, ensuring the message reaches every corner of the city.

The Hyderabad police's strategy includes displaying informative materials at public spaces like bus stands, railway stations, and educational hubs. This approach aims to reach a diverse audience, from daily commuters to students. The campaign's trial phase will expand, covering the entire city, addressing the alarming daily loss of up to 1 crore due to cybercrimes in the Hyderabad Commissionerate jurisdiction.

Telangana DGP B Shivadhar Reddy emphasized the societal impact of cybercrime, urging citizens to stay vigilant. He warned against clicking unknown links, downloading APK files, or responding to video calls from unfamiliar numbers, as these actions could lead to fraud or data theft. The campaign aims to create a resilient digital community, where awareness is the first line of defence against the evolving threats of the online world.
