In a tragic turn of events, a routine journey transformed into a harrowing experience for passengers on a private travel bus, resulting in a deadly inferno on the National Highway near Sirivellametta in Nandyal district. The incident, which occurred on Wednesday night, claimed three lives and left over 15 individuals injured, raising concerns about road safety and the potential hazards of long-distance travel.
The bus, operated by AR BCVR Travels, was en route from Nellore to Hyderabad when a tyre burst caused the driver to lose control. In a terrifying sequence, the vehicle veered across the road divider and collided head-on with an oncoming lorry. The impact was catastrophic, causing the bus to erupt into flames, trapping passengers within the burning wreckage. The bus driver, lorry driver, and cleaner were killed instantly, their lives tragically cut short by the intense blaze.
As panic spread among the passengers, a heroic mini-van driver took charge, breaking the bus windows and facilitating the escape of 36 passengers, averting an even greater loss of life. The injured were promptly transported to Nandyal Government Hospital by 108 ambulances, where they received medical attention. This swift response by local residents and emergency services undoubtedly mitigated the disaster's impact.
Nandyal SP Suneel Sheoran's visit to the accident site underscores the gravity of the situation and the need for a thorough investigation. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers lurking on our highways and the importance of road safety measures. As the community mourns the loss of lives, the focus now shifts to supporting the injured and implementing measures to prevent such tragedies from recurring.
