Hyderabad Fights Cybercrime with Grassroots Awareness

In a proactive move to combat the rising tide of cyber fraud, the Hyderabad police have launched a comprehensive awareness campaign, "Jaagrut Hyderabad a Surakshit Hyderabad," aiming to educate and empower citizens across the state. This initiative comes as a response to the increasing number of cybercrimes, with the Hyderabad Commissionerate jurisdiction reporting an alarming daily loss of up to 1 crore due to online fraud.

The campaign's strategy involves a two-pronged approach. First, a dedicated network of 'cyber ambassadors' comprising residents, students, and professionals has been established. These ambassadors, trained in digital safety, will actively engage in community outreach, conducting door-to-door visits, workshops, and public interactions to disseminate vital information. This grassroots approach ensures that the message reaches every corner of the city, targeting even those who might not typically engage with digital safety content.

Secondly, public spaces will become platforms for education, with bus stands, railway stations, shopping complexes, and educational institutions displaying awareness materials. This strategy aims to reach a broad audience, ensuring that digital safety becomes a shared responsibility. The campaign, currently in its trial phase, will expand across Hyderabad, addressing the growing concern of cybercrime, which, as Telangana DGP B Shivadhar Reddy emphasized, is a serious social issue.

With cybercriminals exploiting human emotions and personal information, the campaign encourages citizens to stay vigilant, avoid clicking unknown links, and be cautious of video calls from strangers. As the initiative unfolds, Hyderabad takes a significant step towards a safer digital future, fostering a community-wide awareness that is both proactive and empowering.
