Red Flag Rally: CPI(M) Andhra Pradesh Conference Combats Communalism

In a powerful display of unity, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) Andhra Pradesh held its 27th state conference in Nellore, rallying against communalism and corporate favoritism. The conference, a significant gathering of 362 delegates and 101 observers, took place from February 1 to 3, 2025, with a clear agenda to strengthen the Left's independent base and combat the rising tide of communal politics.

The conference began with a symbolic gesture as the Red Flag was hoisted by P Madhu, a former CPI(M) state secretary. This act marked the commencement of a series of discussions and resolutions aimed at addressing pressing issues in the state. The delegates, representing various districts and mass fronts, engaged in robust discussions, with 83 comrades actively participating. The political-organisational report, presented by V Srinivasa Rao, served as a cornerstone for these deliberations, highlighting the infiltration of communal forces and the need for a robust Left-democratic alternative.

The conference also witnessed the adoption of 39 resolutions, covering a range of concerns, from the privatisation of the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant to the construction of a steel plant in Kadapa. The delegates unanimously elected a new committee, with improved representation for women and marginalised sections, and re-elected V Srinivasa Rao as the state secretary.

As the conference concluded, the delegates marched through the streets of Nellore, holding red flags, in a public rally. CPI(M) Polit Bureau member Brinda Karat's speech at the public meeting resonated with the conference's theme, criticising the central government's pro-corporate policies and erosion of state rights. The conference's impact was further amplified by a cultural festival and a book exhibition, engaging the public and emphasising the importance of cultural resistance against communalism.
