In a proactive move to combat the rising tide of cyber fraud, the Hyderabad police have launched a comprehensive awareness campaign, "Jaagrut Hyderabad a Surakshit Hyderabad," aiming to educate citizens about digital safety and foster a more secure online environment. This initiative comes at a critical juncture, with cybercriminals exploiting human vulnerabilities and costing the Hyderabad Commissionerate jurisdiction a staggering 1 crore daily.
The campaign's strategy involves a unique approach, employing a network of 'cyber ambassadors' comprising residents, students, and professionals. These volunteers, armed with digital safety knowledge, will engage in door-to-door interactions, workshops, and public awareness drives. The goal is to reach every corner of the city, ensuring that even the most vulnerable citizens, such as the elderly and homemakers, are equipped with the skills to navigate the digital world safely.
The launch event, held at a residential complex in Kavadiguda, marked the beginning of a trial phase, with plans for gradual expansion. The campaign will utilize various platforms to disseminate information, including bus stands, railway stations, and social media. Citizens will have access to resources that help identify and avoid scams, phishing attempts, and identity theft.
Telangana DGP B Shivadhar Reddy emphasized the societal impact of cybercrime, urging citizens to stay vigilant. "Criminals exploit personal details to target vulnerable individuals," he warned, advising against clicking unknown links or responding to suspicious video calls. As the campaign progresses, it aims to create a digitally aware Hyderabad, fostering a safer online environment and empowering citizens to protect themselves and their community.
