In a bid to streamline transport services and enhance road safety, the state transport commissioner of Patna, Arif Ahsan, has issued a stern directive to district transport officers (DTOs) to clear all pending driving licence (DL) and vehicle registration certificate (RC) cases by the end of January. This move comes as a response to the growing backlog of transport-related services, which has been a cause for concern among citizens and officials alike.
During a recent video conference review meeting with DTOs, Ahsan emphasized the importance of timely processing of DLs, RCs, permits, and hit-and-run claims, as these services directly impact the daily lives of citizens. He urged officials to prioritize cases that have been pending for over six months, ensuring that the public does not face unnecessary delays.
The commissioner took a firm stance on road safety, advocating for daily helmet and seatbelt checks across the state. He highlighted the state government's zero-tolerance policy towards rule violations, stating, "Helmets and seatbelts are proven life-savers, and we must ensure strict legal action against offenders." Ahsan also instructed officials to enhance road safety infrastructure by installing mirrors and signage at critical locations, such as sharp turns and blind spots, to reduce accidents.
With a clear mandate to reduce pending DL and RC cases to zero by January 31, DTOs are now under pressure to expedite the process. The commissioner's office has also addressed the issue of vehicle registration backlogs at dealer and agency levels, warning that non-compliance could result in severe consequences, including the cancellation of dealer login IDs. This comprehensive approach aims to improve efficiency, reduce public inconvenience, and ensure safer roads in the state.
