Hyderabad Fights Cybercrime with Grassroots Awareness

In a bold move to combat the rising tide of cyber fraud, the Hyderabad police have launched a comprehensive awareness campaign, "Jaagrut Hyderabad a Surakshit Hyderabad," targeting citizens across the city. With an estimated daily loss of up to 1 crore in the Hyderabad Commissionerate jurisdiction due to cybercrimes, the initiative aims to empower residents with the knowledge and skills to navigate the digital world safely.

The campaign's strategy is twofold: education and outreach. A dedicated network of 'cyber ambassadors' has been established, comprising trained residents, students, and professionals. These volunteers will act as digital safety advocates, conducting door-to-door visits and public interactions to educate citizens about online threats such as scams, phishing, and identity theft. The campaign will also utilize various public spaces, including bus stands, railway stations, and educational institutions, to display informative materials, ensuring the message reaches a broad audience.

The Hyderabad Commissioner of Police, VC Sajjanar, emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating that cybercriminals exploit human emotions like greed and fear. He stressed the importance of cyber patrolling and a proactive approach to combat these crimes. Telangana DGP B Shivadhar Reddy further highlighted the evolving nature of cybercrime, which now frequently targets vulnerable individuals through phone calls, social media, and online interactions.

The campaign, currently in its trial phase, is set to expand across Hyderabad, aiming to create a safer digital environment for all citizens. With a focus on grassroots-level awareness, the Hyderabad police are taking a significant step towards a more secure digital future.
