Drug Bust Uncovers Medical Students' Ganja Network

In a shocking revelation, Hyderabad's drug enforcement efforts have exposed a network of ganja users, including a significant number of medical students. The recent operation, led by the Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement (EAGLE), has identified approximately 100 suspected ganja users, with a startling 32 of them being medical students from a private college in Ghanpur, Medchal district.

The investigation began with the arrest of ganja peddler Arafath Ahmed Khan, who, during interrogation, provided crucial information about his customers. This led authorities to trace the network back to the medical students. Out of the 32 students suspected, nine tested positive for ganja use, with two of them being female residents of the college hostel. The remaining 68 individuals are currently being sought by law enforcement.

Arafath's arrest in Risala Bazar, where he was found with 2kg of ganja, was a collaborative effort between the Hyderabad police and EAGLE officials. Further probing into his financial transactions revealed a substantial amount linked to ganja sales. The trail of ganja supply led to a woman in Irani Colony, Bidar, who has allegedly been involved in the trade since 2010. Her bank account scrutiny uncovered transactions totaling 1.5 crore in the past year, including 6 lakh received from Arafath. The woman's supply source was traced to peddlers in Parli, Maharashtra.

This bust highlights the alarming presence of drug abuse within educational institutions, particularly among future healthcare professionals. The college authorities, now aware of the situation, have taken action by sending the affected students to a de-addiction center. As the investigation unfolds, the focus shifts to addressing the root causes of drug abuse and implementing preventive measures to safeguard the well-being of students and the community.
