With a population of over 6.8 million, the city has long struggled with parking woes, encroached footpaths, and a lack of pedestrian infrastructure. In a recent interview, RV Karnan, the GHMC Commissioner, revealed that the corporation is actively clearing footpaths of encroachments and constructing new Foot Over Bridges (FOBs) to ensure safe and accessible pedestrian walkways. This initiative, known as 'Operation ROPE' (Removal of Obstructive Parking and Encroachments), is a joint effort with the Traffic Police Department, aiming to remove obstructions and create a seamless walking experience. In the past year alone, over 7,500 encroachments were removed, and regular drives are planned to maintain this progress.

The GHMC is also tackling parking issues by adopting the Singapore model of on-street smart parking management, starting with a pilot project in Khairatabad. This system will optimize parking space utilization and reduce congestion. Additionally, multi-level parking projects at key hubs like KBR Park and Charminar will further alleviate parking pressures.

Moreover, the corporation is addressing the street dog menace by implementing the Animal Birth Control (Dogs) Rules-2023, promoting adoption, and educating the public on responsible pet ownership. These measures aim to create a harmonious environment for both humans and animals.

As Hyderabad embarks on this transformative journey, the city's residents can look forward to a more walkable, accessible, and livable urban space. The GHMC's commitment to citizen-centric development promises a brighter, more pedestrian-friendly future for Hyderabad.
