Hyderabad's Cybercrime Help Desk: Revolutionizing Victim Support

In a significant step towards streamlining cybercrime reporting, the Hyderabad Police have unveiled an innovative solution: a dedicated help desk named Cyber Mitra (C-Mitra). This initiative promises to transform the often-daunting task of filing cybercrime complaints, offering a more efficient and victim-centric approach.

The launch event, held at the cybercrime police station in Basheerbagh, introduced a 24-strong call center team. Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar emphasized the system's potential to drastically reduce the time victims spend registering FIRs, currently averaging three hours. The C-Mitra system aims to free up both victims' time and police resources, with the ultimate goal of converting 100% of cybercrime complaints into FIRs, a significant leap from the current 18%.

The process is straightforward yet effective. The C-Mitra team will proactively reach out to victims who have already contacted the national cybercrime helpline (1930). Using AI integration, a draft complaint is generated based on the information provided by the victim. This draft is then shared via WhatsApp, ensuring convenience and accessibility. Once approved, the victim signs and submits the complaint, either physically or, in the future, digitally, marking the official registration of the FIR.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Crimes) M Srinivasulu highlighted the system's efficiency, stating, "We aim to make the process seamless, ensuring victims receive swift justice while allowing our officers to focus on investigations." This initiative demonstrates a proactive approach to cybercrime, potentially setting a new standard for victim support and case management in the digital age.

The Hyderabad Police's C-Mitra system is a welcome development, offering a more responsive and accessible avenue for cybercrime victims to seek justice. With its implementation, the city takes a significant step towards a more efficient and victim-friendly cybercrime reporting process.
