Cyberabad's War on Drugs and Crime

The bustling IT corridor of Cyberabad, a hub for tech professionals, is facing a growing list of challenges, from drug-related crimes to traffic violations and cyber scams. In a recent interaction with TOI readers, Police Commissioner Avinash Mohanty shed light on the various initiatives undertaken to tackle these issues.

One of the primary concerns is the increasing number of crimes against women, particularly those working night shifts or traveling alone. Mohanty assured that women's safety is a top priority, with dedicated SHE teams, effective patrolling, and the 'My Cab is Safe' program monitoring cabs and auto-rickshaws. The police have also conducted safety audits of private hostels and deployed female officers for patrolling in three shifts.

The rise in drug-related cases is another significant issue. Mohanty stated that they are working closely with the Telangana State Narcotics Bureau (TGNAB) to make Cyberabad drug-free. They are monitoring pubs and bars, testing consumers, and confiscating properties under the NDPS Act. The police are also addressing other crimes, such as land grabbing, construction site explosions, and real estate scams, urging citizens to report issues promptly.

Cybercrime, a growing threat in the IT corridor, is being tackled through awareness programs and the Cybercrime helpline 1930. The police have also seized bikes and cars involved in illegal racing and are considering harsher penalties. Mohanty emphasized the importance of public cooperation, urging citizens to report crimes and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety and security.
