In a move that combines religious heritage with sustainable energy, the Sri Vedagiri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple in Nellore is set to become a beacon of innovation. The Andhra Pradesh government has announced plans to lease approximately 100 acres of the temple's land to the Nellore Municipal Corporation for a solar power project. This decision, revealed by State Endowments Minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy, marks a significant step towards harnessing renewable energy while also providing financial benefits to the temple.

Minister Anam, during his visit to the ancient temple, emphasized the potential of this initiative. The Vedagiri Narasimha Swamy Devasthanams, with its vast land bank of 1,100 acres nestled amidst hills, is an ideal location for such a project. By leasing a portion of this land, the Devasthanams can generate an annual income of Rs 3 crore in lease rentals, according to the minister's statement. This revenue stream could significantly contribute to the temple's development and maintenance.

The endowments department has already allocated substantial funds for various projects, including the reconstruction of the Sri Govindaraja Swamy temple and the creation of a Dhyana Mandir and Annaprasadam canteen. With an investment of Rs 8.7 crore, these developments aim to enhance the spiritual experience for devotees. Additionally, Rs 78 crore has been set aside for the restoration and improvement of 57 ancient temples in the Nellore district, showcasing a comprehensive approach to preserving the region's cultural heritage.
