In a proactive move to combat the rising tide of cyber fraud, the Hyderabad police have launched a comprehensive cybercrime awareness campaign, "Jaagrut Hyderabad a Surakshit Hyderabad," aiming to educate and empower citizens across the city. This initiative comes as a response to the alarming frequency of cybercrimes, with the Hyderabad Commissionerate jurisdiction reporting an average daily loss of up to 1 crore due to these digital scams.
The campaign's launch at a residential complex in Kavadiguda marked the beginning of a grassroots movement. A dedicated network of 'cyber ambassadors,' comprising residents, students, and professionals, has been established. These ambassadors, armed with digital safety knowledge, will engage in door-to-door visits, public interactions, and workshops, becoming the city's first line of defense against online threats. Their mission is to educate citizens about common scams, phishing attempts, and identity theft, ensuring that Hyderabad's residents are equipped with the tools to protect themselves.
The campaign's reach extends to public spaces such as bus stands, railway stations, and shopping complexes, where awareness materials will be displayed. This multi-faceted approach aims to create a city-wide understanding of digital safety. Telangana DGP B Shivadhar Reddy emphasized the societal impact of cybercrime, stating that these crimes exploit personal details obtained through phone calls, social media, and online interactions, targeting vulnerable individuals.
As the campaign progresses from its trial phase, the Hyderabad police aim to reach every corner of the city, ensuring that residents are not only aware but also actively engaged in safeguarding their digital lives. With the increasing sophistication of cybercriminals, this initiative is a timely and crucial step towards a more secure digital Hyderabad.
