Nellore Rallies for Cancer Awareness on World Cancer Day

The SPSR Nellore district in India witnessed a collective effort towards cancer awareness on World Cancer Day, with various organisations and hospitals taking the lead. The day was marked by rallies, educational sessions, and celebrations, all aimed at educating the public about cancer prevention and early detection.

The Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) Cancer Hospital celebrated its 25th anniversary with a special event attended by District Collector Himanshu Shukla. Mr. Shukla acknowledged the hospital's growth, attributing it to the collective efforts of many individuals and organisations. The hospital's silver jubilee souvenir was released, and long-standing patrons and donors were honoured for their contributions.

Taking the message to the streets, Narayana Medical College and Hospital organised an awareness rally from the Gandhi statue to the RTC bus stand. The rally, attended by District Medical and Health Officer Dr. Sujatha, emphasised the importance of public education on cancer. Dr. Sujatha commended the hospital's initiative and highlighted the government's ongoing cancer screening programmes. The event also featured Dr. Harish Ravulapalli, who stressed the role of early screening in reducing cancer-related deaths, a critical message given India's high cancer incidence rate, ranking third globally with 1.5 million new cases annually.

The day's activities extended to the beach, where SEIL Energy India Limited, in collaboration with Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, hosted a cancer awareness session as part of their community health commitment. CEO Janmejaya Mahapatra emphasised the company's belief in the power of awareness, stating, "At SEIL Energy, we understand that awareness is the cornerstone of saving lives, and we are dedicated to continuing our efforts in cancer education and screening initiatives."

With a range of events, Nellore's World Cancer Day activities united the community in the fight against cancer, demonstrating the power of collective action in addressing critical health issues.
