In a significant operation, the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagh City Crime Branch has dealt a substantial blow to the illicit drug trade, seizing a staggering Rs 12.46 lakh worth of contraband and arresting five individuals in the process. This raid, conducted at the residence of the prime suspect, Ubaidullah Abdullah, in the Rehmaniya Colony of Kiradpura, has exposed a clandestine network of narcotic cough syrup distribution.
The operation, prompted by an anonymous tip, led to the recovery of 3,000 bottles of CODYLINE cough syrup, each containing codeine phosphate and triprolidine hydrochloride, substances notorious for their misuse as recreational drugs. With a street value of Rs 400 per bottle, the seized consignment is estimated to be worth a substantial Rs 12 lakh. The raid also yielded Rs 1,700 in cash and four high-end mobile phones, bringing the total value of the seizure to Rs 12,46,700.
Five individuals have been taken into custody, including Sheikh Sofiyan Shaikh Nazir, Abdul Naveed Khan Abdul Samee Khan, Shaikh Naved Shaikh Hamid, and Shaikh Ayyaz, alias Sheru Shaikh Siraj, all residents of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. The police have also identified seven other suspects, who remain at large. Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ashok Rajput revealed that the cough syrup originated from Gujarat and was distributed to various individuals in the Shah Bazaar area.
Police Commissioner Pravin Pawar emphasized the commitment of the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar police to eradicating the drug menace, promising continued vigilance and action. The case, registered at the Jinsi police station, invokes various legal provisions, including the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, and the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. As the investigation unfolds, the city's law enforcement sends a clear message: the war on drugs is far from over.
