Cyber Scam Unveiled: Delhi Man's Arrest Exposes Nationwide Fraud

In a significant breakthrough, the Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police have exposed a sophisticated nationwide fraud with the arrest of a 42-year-old Delhi resident, Gurdeep Singh, alias Lucky Narang. The operation began with a complaint from a 62-year-old victim, who reported being conned out of Rs 1.07 crore.

The victim's harrowing experience began with a phone call from an imposter claiming to be from the Mumbai Crime Branch. The caller alleged that the victim's phone number and Aadhaar card were implicated in illegal activities, a tactic to instill fear. The victim was then transferred to an 'investigating officer' who manipulated him into depositing a substantial sum under the pretext of a money-laundering probe, threatening career ruin and arrest.

This case is just the tip of the iceberg, as revealed by ACP RG Siva Maruthi of the Cyber Crime division. Narang, it turns out, was part of a gang that included Prashant Kumar, Deepak Kumar, and four others. They lured bank account holders to hotels in Delhi, Jaipur, and other cities, offering them commissions and accommodation. These unsuspecting individuals became pawns in the gang's elaborate cyber fraud scheme, receiving and forwarding money transfers to the fraud ringleader.

The gang's modus operandi involved impersonating officials from various law enforcement agencies, including the CBI and Customs, to create a convincing facade. They would then fabricate scenarios, such as money laundering or narcotics, to coerce victims into transferring funds, exploiting their fear of legal repercussions. This case underscores the sophistication of cybercrime and the urgent need for public awareness and enhanced cybersecurity measures. The police are now working to dismantle the entire network and bring all perpetrators to justice.
