Karnataka Denies Drug Seizure Claims, Vows Vigilance

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has made a bold claim, stating that they seized narcotics worth Rs 10 crore from Karnataka. However, this assertion has been vehemently denied by the state's Home Minister, G Parameshwara, who has categorically stated that no drugs or raw materials for their production have been confiscated within the state's borders. This stark contradiction raises questions about the NCB's operations and the potential implications for the region.

Speaking at the inauguration of a new traffic police station in Mysuru, Minister Parameshwara emphasized that Karnataka would not become another Punjab, where drug trafficking and abuse are pervasive issues. He assured the public that the state police are committed to combating drug-related crimes, as evidenced by daily arrests of offenders in Bengaluru and beyond. The minister also highlighted the deportation of several foreign nationals allegedly involved in drug trafficking, demonstrating a proactive approach to international drug networks.

Parameshwara expressed skepticism about the NCB's claims, citing a previous instance where a Maharashtra police unit reported a significant drug-making material recovery in Mysuru, which he believes was exaggerated. He also drew attention to the lack of attention given to intelligence reports indicating the presence of 27 questionable chemical labs in Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Maharashtra. The minister has instructed local police to monitor chemical factories closely, holding them accountable for any illicit activities within their jurisdictions.

As the NCB's allegations remain contested, the Karnataka government's commitment to maintaining a drug-free state is evident. The minister's statements underscore the importance of accurate reporting and coordinated efforts between state and federal agencies to effectively address the complex issue of narcotics control.
