Punjab Police's Massive Crackdown: 3,260 Arrested in 72 Hours

In a swift and extensive operation, Punjab Police have demonstrated their commitment to eradicating crime and drug trafficking in the state. Over a 72-hour period, the police force conducted a staggering 8,278 raids, leading to the arrest of 3,260 individuals, including 135 proclaimed offenders. This operation, named 'Operation Prahar-2', was a strategic and well-coordinated effort involving over 12,000 personnel in 2,000 teams, led by senior officers across various police districts.

The operation's success is evident in the recovery of a substantial amount of illegal substances and weapons. Police teams seized 47 weapons, 4.8 kg of heroin, 3.6 kg of opium, 42,797 intoxicant pills, 68 kg of poppy husk, and a significant sum of Rs 30 lakhs in cash. This haul highlights the scale of the criminal activities being targeted and the potential disruption to illegal operations.

The drive also included 1,450 preventive arrests, indicating a proactive approach to maintaining law and order. The police verified and released 2,788 individuals after questioning, ensuring a balanced approach between enforcement and due process.

Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav expressed satisfaction with the operation's outcome, stating that it had exceeded expectations. The ongoing 'Gangstran Te Vaar' campaign, a crackdown against gangsters, will persist until Punjab is free from this criminal element. The police have also encouraged public participation, allowing citizens to anonymously report criminal activities through the Anti Gangster Helpline, fostering a collaborative effort to combat crime.
