In a significant drug enforcement operation, Hyderabad's Commissioner Task Force West Zone Team, in collaboration with the SR Nagar Police, has disrupted a narcotics supply chain, seizing a substantial 70 kilograms of dry ganja worth a staggering Rs 35 lakh. This operation highlights the growing sophistication of drug networks that span rural and urban areas, with two individuals, Maniel Dalabehera and Ismail Raita, now in custody.
The story of this illicit trade begins in a small village in Odisha, where Maniel, a 30-year-old cultivator, grew ganja plants on his father's land. His cousin, Rinita Raita, played a pivotal role in expanding the operation. When Ismail, a 48-year-old employee at Rockwell Industries in Medchal, Hyderabad, visited his village, Rinita saw an opportunity. She enlisted Ismail's help to find customers in the city, a move that would prove to be their undoing.
The trio's journey to Hyderabad's Dhoolpet area, known for its illicit activities, marked the beginning of their downfall. Ismail's residence in Medchal became a distribution hub, attracting several buyers. However, their illegal trade was short-lived, as a tip-off led the police to intercept the peddlers and recover the substantial stash.
"We are determined to make Hyderabad a drug-free city," stated Md Iqbal Siddique, Additional DCP of the Commissioner Task Force. This operation underscores the importance of public vigilance and cooperation in combating the drug trade. As the investigation continues to unravel the network's extent, the authorities' focus remains on identifying local distributors and disrupting the supply chain at its source.
