In a significant development in the ongoing battle against drug trafficking, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police have struck a major blow to a cross-border narcotics smuggling operation. This operation resulted in the arrest of two individuals and the seizure of a substantial quantity of heroin, worth millions on the street. The raid, which took place on Thursday, led to the recovery of 7.63 kilograms of heroin and Rs 21,800 in drug money, according to an official statement.
The Director-General of Police Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, highlighted the success of this operation, emphasizing the international scope of the network. The accused, he revealed, were in contact with a Dubai-based handler who played a pivotal role in facilitating the cross-border movement of heroin. This handler, operating through virtual phone numbers, provided crucial instructions for pickup locations and managed the intricate supply chain. The investigation also uncovered the handler's connection to multiple narcotics networks, including a notable NDPS case involving a massive 43-kilogram heroin seizure.
This recent bust is part of a broader crackdown on crime in Punjab. On Monday, the Punjab Police launched Operation Prahaar-2, a 72-hour statewide operation, arresting over 1,200 individuals in a single day. This operation, under the Gangstran Te Vaar campaign, aims to eradicate the presence of gangsters in the state. The police conducted an impressive 2,760 raids, targeting locations associated with wanted criminals across Punjab.
With the ongoing investigations and the significant progress made, the Punjab Police are sending a strong message to criminal networks. The public can expect further revelations as the police continue to trace the forward and backward linkages of this transnational drug smuggling operation.
