Hyderabad's SHE Teams: Combatting Harassment, Empowering Women

In a bold move to curb public harassment and ensure women's safety, Hyderabad's Malkajgiri SHE Teams have intensified their efforts, apprehending a staggering 81 individuals in a single month. This proactive initiative, conducted throughout January, targeted indecent behaviour in public spaces, sending a strong message to potential offenders.

The operation, a strategic blend of decoy operations and surveillance, led to the detention of 56 adults and 25 minors. The minors, a concerning aspect of this issue, were provided counselling sessions, while the adults faced legal consequences. The SHE Teams, dedicated to women's safety, registered eight criminal cases and 25 petty cases, demonstrating their commitment to justice. The teams' comprehensive approach included formal counselling sessions, involving family members and professional counsellors, aiming to address the root causes of such behaviour.

During this period, the SHE Teams received 99 complaints, a testament to the public's trust in their work. These complaints ranged from harassment through phone calls and social media to direct physical harassment. The teams' swift action, including counselling 55 individuals, reflects their holistic approach to tackling this pervasive issue. DCP Women Safety Malkajgiri Commissionerate, T Usha Rani, emphasized the police's unwavering stance against harassment, encouraging victims to report without fear. The teams' undercover operations in public spaces, from bus stands to schools, send a clear message: harassment will not be tolerated.

The SHE Teams' efforts extend beyond enforcement, with awareness programmes reaching over 5,700 individuals. This comprehensive strategy aims to create a safer environment for women, addressing the issue from multiple angles. As the SHE Teams continue their vigilant work, Hyderabad takes a significant step towards a safer, more inclusive city for all.
