In a significant development, the Malkajgiri Police's cybercrime wing has apprehended six individuals in a series of arrests spanning from February 7 to 13, targeting various online scams. These arrests, stemming from six distinct cases, shed light on the evolving landscape of cybercrime and the proactive measures taken by law enforcement.

The crackdown exposed a range of fraudulent activities, including investment scams, loan app fraud, and part-time job schemes. The perpetrators, operating across multiple states, employed sophisticated tactics to deceive unsuspecting victims. In one instance, a victim was lured into a Facebook group, 'AZ70 Market Radar Station', where they were promised stock tips and investment guidance. After witnessing fabricated profits, they were coerced into transferring a substantial sum of Rs 5.20 lakh, which was funneled through a mule account held by Gummadi Rambabu in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh.

The police's investigation led to arrests in Mumbai and Bhiwandi, Maharashtra, and Mahabubnagar, with the accused playing diverse roles in these scams. Santosh Chandrakant Gaikawad, arrested in Mumbai, was involved in a large-scale investment fraud, where victims were enticed through a WhatsApp group and a fake trading application. The scam resulted in a staggering loss of 87.65 lakh for one victim. In another case, three individuals from Bhiwandi were apprehended for operating mule accounts, facilitating the transfer of over 65 lakh obtained through fraudulent means.

The operation's success is underscored by the recovery of 16.9 lakh, refunded to victims through court orders. This proactive approach by the Malkajgiri Police not only brings relief to affected individuals but also sends a strong message to cybercriminals. The police have urged citizens to remain vigilant, emphasizing the importance of verifying investment platforms and being cautious with personal information online.
