Union Budget 2024: Focus on Education, Infrastructure, and Growth

The Union Budget 2024, presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, marks the first budget of the Modi 3.0 government. The education sector sees a notable allocation of ₹1.48 lakh crore, emphasizing skill development and new courses. The government plans to offer internships to 1 crore youth over the next five years, aiming to enhance employability and practical skills. Additionally, education loans of ₹10 lakh for higher studies in India and a 3% reduction in loan interest are introduced to support students and curb brain drain.

In infrastructure, the budget sets a historic capex target of ₹11.11 lakh crore, reflecting a significant increase from previous years. PM Modi highlighted a ₹1 lakh crore fund for research and innovation, aiming to boost indigenous production and reduce import dependency, particularly in the oilseeds sector.

Tax policies remain unchanged, but the government has extended benefits for start-ups and certain financial units. A scheme to support housing for the middle class, and an increase in medical colleges and healthcare cover are also notable announcements.
