Hyderabad Police have arrested a 30-year-old man for allegedly stealing gold rings by replacing them with fake ones at jewellery stores. The accused, identified as Merugu Sagar, reportedly used a clever trick to carry out the thefts.
According to police, he would enter jewellery showrooms posing as a regular customer and ask to see gold rings. While examining the items, he would wait for the sales staff to get distracted and then quickly swap the original ring with a fake one he had brought with him.
Officials said he targeted well-known jewellery outlets, including stores at CMR Shopping Mall and Malabar Gold showroom, during January and February. At each location, he followed the same method to deceive staff and escape without raising suspicion.
During the investigation, CCTV footage played a key role in identifying the accused. In one clip, he was clearly seen placing a fake ring on the holder while the salesperson was busy.
Police have taken him into custody, and further investigation is ongoing.
