In Hyderabad, the Hyderabad City Police held a high-level meeting with prominent members of the Telugu film industry following the bust of a major movie piracy racket. The initiative aimed to develop collaborative strategies to combat content theft and was widely welcomed by the film fraternity, which has been significantly affected by piracy. Notable personalities including Chiranjeevi, Venkatesh Daggubati, Akkineni Nagarjuna, and Nani attended the meeting, along with producers, exhibitors, digital distribution partners, and Dil Raju, Chairman of the Telangana Film Development Corporation.
During the session, police officials briefed industry representatives on key findings from the investigation. They revealed that cybercriminals were using methods such as in-theater recording and hacking digital distribution systems to carry out piracy. Commissioner Anand explained the broader piracy network, identifying several notorious websites involved in illegal distribution, including TamilMV, Tamil Blasters, and Movierulz.
Representatives from the film industry assured full cooperation with law enforcement in implementing preventive measures and enhanced security protocols. It was also highlighted that the Telugu film industry has suffered estimated losses of around ₹2,200 crore over the years due to piracy.
