In Hyderabad, the city reported economic offences amounting to ₹9,675 crore, including cheating and large-scale land scams, according to the Hyderabad City Police annual report for 2023. A total of 245 individuals were arrested in connection with these crimes.
The most significant case involved an alleged ₹1,000 crore fraud by Bhoodati Laxminarayana, owner of Sahiti Infra, along with his family and associates. Initially investigated by the city police, the case has now been taken over by the Enforcement Directorate.
Land scams accounted for a major portion of the losses. In 93 such cases, around 130 victims were duped of ₹7,621 crore. K. Sreenivasa Reddy stated that land scams are on the rise and assured that the police are closely monitoring these cases. He also emphasized ongoing efforts to train police teams to better handle land-related frauds.
