In a significant blow to transnational drug trafficking, a joint operation by the Delhi Police Crime Branch and the Telangana Anti-Narcotics Bureau (TGNAB) has led to the dismantling of an extensive African drug cartel operating in the Delhi-NCR region. The crackdown resulted in arrests, seizures of narcotics worth a staggering Rs 12 crore, and the detention of numerous foreign nationals.
The operation, spanning multiple locations, was a well-coordinated effort that uncovered a vast network of drug suppliers and distributors. One of the critical arrests was that of Ugandan national Zainab Kyobutungi, apprehended at Mohan Garden in Uttam Nagar. Kyobutungi, believed to be a central figure in the cartel, had 195 grams of cocaine, 24 grams of MDMA, and Rs 40,500 in cash in her possession. This led to the registration of a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The authorities also nabbed Nigerian national Bekki, a major distributor, in Sant Garh, Tilak Nagar, with a substantial amount of drugs and cash. This arrest led to a further breakthrough, as it facilitated the capture of another Nigerian, Frank, from whom 60 MD pills were recovered. The raids also uncovered a locked property used as a storage hub, yielding over 106 grams of cocaine and 107 grams of heroin.
The operation's success highlights the effectiveness of inter-state collaboration in combating organized crime. "This reflects the strong enforcement action taken to prevent illegal immigrants from exploiting the national capital region for criminal activities," stated Jt. Commissioner, Crime Branch, Surender Kumar. The next steps will likely involve further investigations to unravel the full extent of the cartel's operations and potential connections, ensuring that the region remains secure from such illicit activities.
