In a significant drug bust, the Mira-Bhayandar, Vasai-Virar (MBVV) police's Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) has disrupted a major drug manufacturing operation in the heart of Vasai, a bustling city in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The arrest of Victor Odichinma, a 37-year-old Nigerian national, has led to the seizure of a staggering 11.08 crore worth of contraband, including 22.86 kg of the synthetic stimulant Mephedrone (MD), along with raw materials and equipment used for its production.
Odichinma, also known as Dyke Ramond, had been living in a rented flat in Vasai East for two months. His arrest on Monday night was the result of a tip-off regarding drug peddling in the area. The ANC's search of his person and residence revealed a substantial amount of cocaine and a clandestine drug laboratory. The discovery of a fake passport and the absence of a visa or rental agreement further raised suspicions.
The investigation took a turn when the police found a key to another flat in the same building, which served as a storage unit for raw materials used in MD production. This second flat was allegedly occupied by another Nigerian, Igvenuba Chimaobi, who is now a person of interest in the case. The ANC's swift action has potentially prevented a large quantity of drugs from hitting the streets, highlighting the growing sophistication of drug operations in the region.
As the authorities continue their pursuit of Chimaobi and further investigate Odichinma's connections, this case underscores the importance of vigilant law enforcement in combating the pervasive issue of narcotics trafficking. With the ANC's dedication, Mumbai's streets may become safer, one bust at a time.
