In a significant blow to the illicit drug trade, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in Mumbai has dismantled a major drug syndicate, seizing and destroying a substantial cache of narcotics worth crores. This operation, spanning multiple locations, highlights the NCB's commitment to disrupting organised crime and protecting public health.
On November 20, the Mumbai Zonal Unit of the NCB announced the destruction of over 25 kilograms of high-value drugs, including cocaine, hydro ganja, and cannabis gummies. The drugs, worth a fortune on the black market, were disposed of through incineration at the Mumbai Waste Management Ltd. facility in Taloja. This action was the culmination of a long-term operation targeting an international drug and financial network, which began with the seizure of the narcotics from a syndicate based in Navi Mumbai.
The NCB's strategic approach, known as "Bottom to Top," has proven effective in dismantling the entire syndicate. The investigation led to the arrest of nine individuals, including the kingpin, who was deported from Malaysia and subsequently arrested. The bureau's financial probe also resulted in freezing assets worth over Rs. 10 crore linked to the kingpin. This comprehensive operation showcases the NCB's expertise in navigating the intricate web of international drug trafficking.
As the NCB continues its mission towards a "Nasha Mukt Bharat by 2047," the public is encouraged to actively participate in this endeavour. By reporting drug-related activities through the National Narcotics Helpline, MANAS, citizens can contribute to the ongoing battle against drug syndicates, ensuring a safer and healthier society.
