Adivasi Martyrs Remembered: A Tribute to the Indravelli Struggle

In a powerful display of remembrance and solidarity, hundreds of Adivasis and political leaders gathered in Adilabad to honor the Indravelli martyrs, a testament to the enduring impact of a tragic event that occurred 45 years ago. On April 20, 1981, a dark chapter was etched into the history of this region when the Indravelli police firing claimed lives and left an indelible mark on the Adivasi community. This year's memorial, held on Monday, served as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made and the ongoing quest for justice.

The event was attended by prominent figures, including Adilabad MP Godam Nagesh, Asifabad MLA Kova Laxmi, and Khanapur MLA Vedma Bojju, who addressed the gathering and acknowledged the significance of the day. MLA Bojju assured the audience of the government's dedication to Adivasi welfare and promised support for families whose loved ones were not officially recognized as victims of the 1981 incident. Currently, only 13 Adivasi martyrs have been officially acknowledged, and their families have received benefits such as housing, land, and vehicles. The MLA's commitment to addressing this disparity was met with appreciation by the attendees.

The memorial also served as a platform for various leaders to announce development initiatives. MP Nagesh emphasized plans to improve road connectivity and initiate projects under the NREGS in Adivasi habitations, fostering a sense of progress and recognition for the community. The event concluded with a sense of hope and determination, as attendees reflected on the past while looking forward to a future where the sacrifices of the Indravelli martyrs are fully acknowledged and the Adivasi community continues to thrive with the support of its leaders.
