With a weight of 1710 kg, EOS-09 will join India's fleet of Earth observation assets, providing real-time coverage for the country, which is also necessary for disaster management and security.
Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) will launch the Earth Observation Satellite (EOS)-09 on May 18 from Sriharikota. EOS-09 will be the latest addition to the fleet of Earth observation satellites, further enhancing the country's aerospace capabilities.
This satellite weighs around 1710 kg and will address the increased need for real-time coverage across the vast territory of India. According to an official statement from the Defence Ministry, the satellite's key applications include agriculture, forestry, and disaster management support, alongside security, border, and coastal surveillance.
Several Members of Parliament (MPs) from different states will witness the launch and are expected to experience virtual reality and augmented reality demonstrations as a part of the space agency's outreach programme.
Previously, the launch of EOS-01 in 2020 witnessed the participation of more than 140 MPs and was followed by in-depth interactions with ISRO scientists and engineers. As per the official statement, ISRO is actively engaged in expanding its Earth observation satellite fleet, improving the country's observational capabilities, and acquiring niche technologies in the field.
With the launch of EOS-09, India will continue to enhance its aerospace capabilities and apply new technologies for the benefit of society.
