Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to address the nation at 8 pm today, marking his first address since the Indian armed forces launched "Operation Sindoor" in retaliation for the deadly Pahalgam terror attack on April 22. The details of his address remain undisclosed, but it is anticipated that the Prime Minister will provide updates regarding the military operation, particularly focusing on the airstrikes conducted in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
The Prime Minister's speech is expected to follow talks between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of India and Pakistan, who have been engaging in discussions aimed at managing the rising tensions between the two nations. On Sunday, May 11, PM Modi convened a high-level meeting at his residence with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, and the chiefs of the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force to review the situation. This meeting reflects the government's focus on national security and the evolving geopolitical landscape.
Since the initiation of Operation Sindoor on May 7, PM Modi has been actively involved in meetings with the armed forces leadership, including the Chief of Defence Staff and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. These discussions are centered around coordinating the military response and ensuring the security of Indian borders. On May 12, a press briefing by the Indian Armed Forces provided additional details of the operation, revealing that the strikes had successfully destroyed 11 air bases within Pakistan. The military emphasized that Operation Sindoor is aimed exclusively at terrorist targets, not Pakistan's military installations, and clarified that India's bases remain secure.
According to the Army, over 100 terrorists have been eliminated in the ongoing operation, underscoring its effectiveness in countering the terror threat. The Army also warned that any violation of the military understanding by Pakistan would lead to severe consequences, highlighting the seriousness of India's commitment to defending its sovereignty and national security.
