Ex-servicemen rally in support of armed forces

Former soldiers rally in support of armed forces and demand justice for military rape victim

Just days after a 22-year-old woman from Tamil Nadu's Perambalur died by suicide, claiming she was raped by four armed forces personnel, ex-servicemen have rallied in support of the armed forces and demanded justice for the victim.

The young woman, a student, had claimed that she was raped by four soldiers, including two junior commissioned officers (JCOs), in Chennai in early July. The woman, who was pregnant, was terrified that she would be ostracized and shamed when she went public with the incident.

Hundreds of ex-servicemen and their families participated in a rally and a public meeting in Perambalur on Sunday to express their support for the armed forces and condemn the rape allegation.

The former soldiers, many of whom were veterans of the Tamil Nadu Ex-Servicemen's Association (TESA), carried posters and photos of the victim and demanded justice for her.

Akhilanathan, a veteran, told the crowd that the armed forces were also outraged and pained by the incident and that it was imperative to bring the perpetrators to justice. "We must not allow this situation to repeat itself," he emphasized.

Another ex-servicemen, Raj Kumar, expressed his grief over the incident and said that the armed forces were committed to the safety and security of every Indian citizen, without exception. "Such heinous acts should not be associated with the noble profession of defending the nation," he said.

The rally concluded with a somber reminder that the armed forces are entrusted with the lives of citizens and that justice must be served to those who betray that trust.

"Let us all work together to ensure that justice is served and that such tragic incidents are never repeated," said Manikandan, another ex-servicemen present at the rally.

The rally was a stark display of unity and solidarity, with the ex-servicemen standing together to condemn any abuse of power and demand justice for the young woman and her family.
