Karnataka Congress deletes social media post showing J-K as part of Pakistan, BJP hits back

The Congress party in Karnataka is facing criticism and accusations of "promoting separatism" from the BJP after a video surfaced showing a local leader claiming the regions of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh as "separated" from India. The clip has now been deleted from Congress leader op Singh's Twitter account.

The controversy comes amid rising tensions in Jammu and Kashmir over reports of a possible military operation to neutralize terrorists.

Police arrested op Singh, who is also the president of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee's (KPCC) minority cell, on Saturday night and charged him with inciting people against the country and promoting communal hatred. "The police will take appropriate action against him (OP Singh) as per law," Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said.

Responding to the uproar, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and state Congress President D K Shivakumar downplayed the issue. "It is an internal matter of the BJP. They are taking it up aggressively because they have no other issue against us. I am confident that the people of Karnataka will not be misled by these tactics," he said.

The BJP has seized on the issue, calling it a "blatant disregard for India's territorial integrity and a reflection of the Congress' separatist mindset."

"It is shocking that a leader of the Congress, which has ruled India for nearly half a century, is showing such a blatant disregard for India's territorial integrity. The Congress leadership should discipline him and apologise to the nation for his reckless behavior," BJP state chief Nalin Kumar Kateel said.
