The Hindu festival Bhagirath Jayanti was celebrated with much fervour in Belagavi, Karnataka. The day marks the birth anniversary of Bhagirath, a revered saint in the Hindu tradition who is believed to have brought the River Ganges down to Earth from heaven. The celebration began with a colourful procession starting from Killa Durga Devi Mandir, passing through the city's main streets.

The procession was attended by hundreds of people, including locals and visitors from neighbouring regions. Traditional percussion bands and dance troupes added to the festive atmosphere. The parade culminated at the Belagavi Fort, where a special puja (prayer ritual) was performed by priests.

The festivities were a ray of hope and unity for the locals, coming after the Covid-19 pandemic and the recent floods in Belagavi.

"May the auspicious footsteps of Saint Bhagirath continue to bless us, and these blessed celebrations bring peace and prosperity to all." remarked Sri Venkatachalapathy, priest at the Durga Devi Temple.

The joyful vibes and colourful spectacle of the festival were a much-needed breather for the locals, marking a fresh start and signifying unity and hope in the face of hardship.
