Capital expenditure on infrastructure development will have a positive cascading effect on the economy, according to Chief Secretary Ramakrishna Rao.
The govt. is focusing on infrastructure development, with chief secretary Ramakrishna Rao stating that such spending will have a positive effect on the economy. Rao pointed to the Rs 1.2 lakh crore infrastructure development package announced in May, claiming that it addressed the infrastructure gaps in the country and would create millions of jobs in the economy.
Capital expenditure on infrastructure is one of the most effective ways to achieve multiple objectives, such as stimulating private sector investment, creating jobs, improving the economy's productive capacity, and enhancing competitiveness, he added.
Rao highlighted that the package included initiatives across various infrastructure sectors, including ports, rail, metro, roads, warehousing, aviation, power, and mass housing.
He further stated that the government of India would make every effort to ensure that all initiatives are completed on schedule and with the highest possible quality.
This comes after India's GDP fell to an annual rate of 4.1% in the second quarter of the 20222023 fiscal year, according to a recent report from the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation.
