One entertainment executive's quest for sexual encounters while drugged and one alleged sexual assault at his home have put a spotlight on "sex parties," prompting some to ask whether they constitute sexual exploitation.
A prosecutor alleged in court that entertainment mogul Sean "Diddy" Combs forced women to participate in drug-fueled sex parties, but his lawyer called the claims ridiculous, and the judge agreed to toss one woman's testimony alleging sexual assault.
The judge made the ruling on Tuesday, ahead of a trial in which the prosecutor announced that more women would come forward with similar allegations against the rapper and entrepreneur, saying the women were "induced by Mr. Combs' conduct to engage in sexual activity with him and others."
The accuser, former stylist and model Shannon Tursey, testified that she was drugged and sexually assaulted during a party at Combs' Los Angeles home after being invited to the home to discuss a potential fashion line in 2019.
The judge dismissed that testimony and ruled that Tursey would not be allowed to testify about it during the trial, though other women may come forward.
"The prosecution should not have offered it, and the court will not consider it," Superior Court Judge Monica Sanchez said.
