The chief minister of Jharkhand, Hemant Soren, has announced a 50 crore package for the development of Santhali language and culture and the construction of a memorial for Pandit Raghunath Murmu, the creator of the Ol Chiki alphabet. This decision comes after the state government received a sum of 733 crore as a loan and fund under the 13th Finance Commission for the development of tribal communities and their culture. "Our tribal culture and language have been overshadowed by the dominance of western culture and languages. It is our duty to preserve and promote our own language and culture," CM Soren was quoted as saying.

The package will be used to create infrastructure and resources for the preservation and promotion of the Santhali language, as well as for the construction of a memorial for Pandit Raghunath Murmu, a prominent figure in the Santhali community who created the Ol Chiki alphabet. The alphabet, coined in 1925, was developed to write the Santhali language, a Scheduled Tribe language of Jharkhand.

With this decision, the Jharkhand government hopes to promote the rich cultural heritage of the state and strengthen the identity of the tribal communities within its borders.

"We want to empower the tribal communities, give them a platform to shine, and preserve their identity in this age of global culture."

The announcement was welcomed by tribal communities, who see it as a positive step towards the preservation and promotion of their culture, language, and history.
