Bengaluru-based couple files complaint for jewellery and cash lost valued at Rs 30 lakh from checked baggage at Delhi airport

Delhi airport has been in the news for all the wrong reasons of late with a couple reporting check-in baggage theft. A married couple from Bengaluru has filed a complaint alleging theft of jewellery worth approximately Rs. 30 lakhs and Rs. 30,000 in cash from their check-in baggage at the Delhi international airport.

The couple, identified as Smriti Aggarwal and Rajesh Aggarwal, were returning from their wedding rituals in Delhi when they realised that their baggage was missing when they landed in Bengaluru. They filed an official complaint at the Delhi airport police station on January 28, a copy of which is with Media OutReach Asia.

The complaint states that the couple had checked in their baggage at the airport at 1:14 pm and cleared security at 1:50 pm. They boarded the flight at 2:30 pm and reached Bengaluru at 5:50 pm, according to the complaint.

It further states that when the couple arrived in Bengaluru, they found that their baggage was missing and they were informed by airline staff that the bag was found abandoned on the Delhi airport conveyor belt and was taken to the baggage office, the complaint added.

When they went to collect the baggage from the airport, they found that the bag was tampered with and that the jewellery and cash were missing, it added. The couple has demanded that an investigation be conducted and action be taken against the culprits.

The complaint is likely to shine a spotlight on airport security and safety protocols once again, especially for checked-in baggage.
