A Brave Soldier Forever in the Heart of Imphal

Constable Deepak Chingakham of the Border Security Force (BSF) would soon be reaching Imphal, his hometown and the place he died to protect, after laying down his life while successfully preventing a major infiltration bid in the high mountains of the Macchil sector in Kashmir.

The incident, which took place on December 1, 2022, saw the sacrifice of the brave soldier prevent a potentially disastrous intrusion of terrorists into Indian territory. Deepak Chingakham was critically injured during the operation and later succumbed to his injuries.

The state of Manipur, as a mark of respect and to recognize the bravery and sacrifice of the late BSF constable, announced an ex gratia of 10 lakh to the soldier's next of kin. The amount will be granted under the Major Laishram Jyotin Singh Ashok Chakra (P) Scheme.

Manipur Chief Minister Nara Devi said, "The people of the state share the grief of the bereaved family and pray for the departed soul to rest in peace in heaven."

A soldier who gave his all to keep us safe, Deepak Chingakham's sacrifice will not be forgotten by the people of Imphal, or India as a whole.
