Masyn Winn's standout performance seals Cardinals' 9th consecutive win

The Cardinals' win streak continued thanks to a standout performance from rookie reliever Masyn Winn. The Phillies, who suffered their 6th defeat in a row, couldn't catch up to St. Louis' prolific offense.

In only his second major league appearance, Winn, a touted prospect, seamlessly navigated out of a jam in the 7th inning. He fanned the dangerous Bryce Harper with the bases loaded to end the inning and the Cards' bullpen avoided further trouble.

Winn's exceptional debut with the big league club echoes that of another young Cardinal star, Tommy Edman. Both third-round draft picks, Edman and Winn are the latest success stories from the Cardinals' prolific farm system.

With the bases loaded and one out in the top of the 7th, Winn entered the game and induced a ground ball out from Matt Vierling, limiting the damage to just one run. In 4 appearances this season, the 24-year-old hasn't given up a single run.

"He's a competitor. He's cool, calm, and collected, and he wants that ball in a big spot," shared Cards manager Oliver Marmol.

As the second longest-winning streak this season, behind the Yankees' 12-game run, the Cardinals seem to have found the secret recipe for success this season. They'll look to keep their momentum going behind Paul Goldschmidt and Jose Ramirez, who combined for half of their 16 hits yesterday.

"...they are playing with a great deal of confidence," commented Phillies manager Rob Thomson.

Indeed, as the season progresses, it seems the Cardinals' young talent pool is ready for prime time. If they continue to perform like this, Winn and Edman could become household names in the sport.
