Rangers RF Langford's game-winning homer helped them beat the Rockies after a managerial shake-up at Coors Field.
Denied twice by impressive pitching, and once by a video review, the Texas Rangers finally solved Colorado Rockies pitcher German Marquez in the seventh inning Tuesday night at Coors Field.
Isiah Kiner-Falefa opened the seventh with a double to left-center field, and Marquez (4-2) followed with two outs by walking Adolis Garcia.
Lefty Ben Bowden replaced Marquez and got ahead of rookie Josh Smith, who sent a foul ball down the first-base line that Ryan McMahon grabbed.
On the next pitch, Smith hit a line drive to right field that erased Kiner-Falefa, but not before he scored the go-ahead run when Rockies right fielder Sam Hilliard misplayed the ball.
The Rangers extended their lead to 2-0 when David Peralta hit his first homer of the season with two outs in the eighth.
It turned out to be the game-winning run after the Rockies scored a run in the bottom of the ninth against Josh Sborz, who earned his first save.
The Rockies fired manager Bud Black earlier in the day after getting off to a rough start this season. They were 8-10 and had lost eight of their previous nine games, including a 2-1 loss to the Rangers on Monday.
"Obviously, there's some things going on outside the lines that are a little bit beyond our control,'' Rangers manager Chris Woodward said. "But for us to come in here and play a meaningful game in the eighth and ninth innings with everything that's going on, I think that's meaningful for our guys.''
Rangers: LHP Taylor Hearn (1-0, 3.60) will start Wednesday's series finale. Hearn allowed one run in five innings against Oakland in his last start.
Rockies: RHP Daniel Bard (1-2, 5.19) will take over the rotation spot that was to belong to Chad Kuhl (right forearm strain). Bard has filled in nicely as a reliever this season, posting a 2.25 ERA in nine appearances. He also pitched well in a starting role last year after returning from surgery to correct thoracic outlet syndrome.
