Losing money and finding yourself in a scam can be devastating. This is the reality a young engineering student faced after falling prey to a sophisticated online escort scam, resulting in a loss of Rs. 6 lakh.

The 23-year-old student, who studies chemical technology, reportedly came across a WhatsApp number advertising online call girl services.

The elaborate scam involved convincing the young man that he was speaking to an actual call girl, convincing him to make advance payments for their services, and then miraculously curing the money.

The victim reported that he received a WhatsApp message with a phone number claiming to offer online escort services. Initially, the victim questioned the authenticity of the service. However, the scammers were well prepared, sending legitimate-looking documents to establish their credibility.

They sent photographs of women claiming to be call girls and even shared location details of the non-existent business. Once the victim got convinced, they began communicating via WhatsApp calls and video calls. Of course, all the women allegedly providing the services were not real and merely images manipulated using deepfake technology.

This sophisticated scam involved several people who took turns convincing the victim about the legitimacy of the service and the need for upfront payments. The conversation gradually evolved into an intimate nature, making the victim feel guilty if he were to back out.

The young man succumbed to the pressure and made a payment of Rs. 40,000 in advance, and even after the payment, the harassment did not stop, and he was coerced into making additional payments. The victim's parents became aware of the ongoing scam after the victim lost Rs. 6 lakh.

Unfortunately, this is not an isolated case. Such deceitful activities thrive on cunningness and emotional leverage, targeting individuals who seek services online. This scam not only resulted in financial loss but also leaves the victim emotionally shattered and embarrassed.

The police have registered a complaint, and investigations are underway to catch the perpetrators of this disturbing scam exploiting innocent individuals.
